Was one of  two Detroit cops shot Tuesday evening hit by friendly fire?

Some local TV stations were raising that possibility as investigators tried to determine exactly what happened the night the cops, who were part of a federal task force, pursued a homicide suspect, Matthew Joseph, 23.

James Kiertzner of WXYZ posted this on the station's website:

One of the Detroit police officers who was shot in the head during the shoot-out on the west side on Tuesday may have been struck by friendly fire from another officer.
Sources tell 7 Action News that the investigation is looking into the possibility of friendly fire regarding the officer who remains in critical condition.

Joseph was shot and killed at the scene on the city's west side. One officer was shot in the leg and was released from Ford Hospital. The other one, who was shot in the head, remains in critical condition.
