Detroit Police investigators are working on some strong leads in the Dec. 22 shooting of four teenagers, and seem to be moving away from the theory of a botched robbery attempt, WDIV reports.
Investigators are applying basic police work, says Mara MacDonald of the station, adding that two reward funds totaling $110,000 aren't generating many tips. The Dec. 22 shooting wounded three teens and killed Paige Stalker, 16, of Grosse Pointe Farms.
MacDonald did not report on what theories, other than the robbery gone bad, police are looking at. The report did not indicate whether one theory is that the gunman targeted the car.
Retired Detroit police Lt. Tom Berry tells WDIV:
"In my investigatory experience, and I have 34 years and I’ve been wrong and right, this isn’t a robbery gone bad," Berry said. "They don’t fire 30 rounds from an AK assault rifle. They may fire one or two and run away, but they didn’t. They emptied that clip on those poor kids in that car and they drove away from the scene.”
Sources tel;l WDIV the area where the teens were shot is frequented by suburban kids looking to buy dope from a specific dealer.
