Colleagues of 29-year-old Brian Woehlke, the first Westland firefighter killed on duty, have started a trust fund for his 13-month-old daughter Ava.

Woehlke, a rookie firefighter whose funeral is Monday, died last Wednesday in a roof collapse during a strip mall blaze. He's also survived by Jennifer Woehlke, his wife of four years.

The Westland Firefighters Charity appeals to the pubklic to "help contribute to our fallen brother." It accepts donations online, by mail or in person:

  • Web: Credit cards can be used here
  • Dropoff:  Checks are accepted at Westland Fire Station 1, Ford Road and Central City.
  • Mail: P.O. Box 851320, Westland, MI 48185

Air personalities for radio station WCSX-FM will support the fund drive by collecting donations at four sites Monday in Warren, St. Clair Shores and Westland:
