The five-year-old Wheelhouse Detroit Bike Shop has "some exciting news to share," it says on Facebook: "We will be open through the winter!"
Wheelhouse Detroit Bike Shop and Detroit Bikes are preparing to launch a retail residency in Eastern Market that will open on November 26, in concert with Eastern Market Corporation's Thanksgiving Market.
The bicycle boutique will be housed in a shipping container located in Shed 4, at Russell and Division. Hours will be Friday and Monday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Bicycle rental and drop-off repair service will also be available.

Wheelhouse's main site on RiverWalk will operate through Nov. 25 and reopen in mid-March.
Yes, we also miss the days when merchants said "store" or "branch" instead of "retail residency," but we like how they roll and won't yank the bike chain.
Wheelhouse co-owner Karen Gage tells Bridget Vis of Crain's that Eastern Market suggested the site to operate all winter for the first time.
"We thought it was a great fit for us to stay open year-round and be able to do business over the holidays," Gage said.
Through mid-March, the maroon shipping container boutique will stock the Detroit-built A-Type ($550) and A+ model with lights, lock, kickstand, bottle cage and bell for $700.
Accessories offered include U.S.-made baskets, bottle and flask cages, and bells, lock cables. kickstands, gear bags, lights, leather grips and tools.
Wheelhouse's main site at 1340 E. Atwater on RiverWalk will operate through Nov. 25 and reopen in mid-March.
