General Motors plans to shut down its Detroit-Hamtramck plant where it assembles the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid for four weeks, Automotive News reported.
The plant will close from Sept. 17 until Oct. 15, idling roughly 1,500 workers, who will be able to collect unemployment.
Automotive News reported that GM makes the Volt at the factory and recently started assembling a small number of redesigned 2013 Chevrolet Malibus.
