In years past, promising seasons for the Tigers have turned to mush because of injuries to key players.
It's too early to write off any season, but it's not too early to have some concerns about injuries that have cropped up during the exhibition season, and with the regular season just around the corner.
The Detroit Free Press reports:
With all the ailments and aging veterans, it makes you wonder if this Tigers team will be any different from last year.
Shawn Windsor of the Freep writes that slugger Victor Martinez is dealing with a strained hamstring and might not be ready for the start of the season.
Pitcher Daniel Norris suffered a fractured spinal process recently, though team trainers told the Free Press the injury sounds worse than it is and that Norris won’t be out long-term.
In the bullpen, Alex Wilson is dealing with shoulder soreness and Blaine Hardy, a shoulder impingement, the Freep reports. Wilson won’t be ready to start the season.
Then there's Anibal Sanchez.
The Freep reports:
He struggled with lower triceps inflammation during the beginning of the spring and didn’t pitch in his first game until earlier this week — he threw 54 pitches Monday against the Phillies and showed his trademark command.
“That outing makes me comfortable,” Sanchez told the Free Press.
