U.S. District Terrence Berg

For the second time in less than a week, U.S. District Judge Terrence Berg, who was shot Thursday night during a robbery attempt outside his northwest Detroit home,  underwent surgery to repair his damaged leg.

Tresa Baldas of the Detroit Free Press reports that that Berg's wife, Anita Sevier, issued a statement on Monday after the surgery, saying:

"Judge Berg came through his surgery well. He is on the road to recovery and hopes you'll respect his privacy."

The Freep reports that the bullet tore through his leg above his right knee, and that Berg, 55, was able to take a few steps with a walker on Saturday.

The FBI is offering a $25,000 reward in the case.

Two men approached Berg on his front porch Thursday night and told him they wouldn't hurt him, but wanted him to let them in his home. His wife and teenage son were inside.

Berg did not comply and was shot. The robbers fled.
