Sixteen uniformed Detroit Police officers got stuck in an elevator Tuesday afternoon at the Atheneum Suite Hotel in Greektown in downtown Detroit.

Detroit Police Officer Dan Donakowski said the officers were at the hotel on Brush Street for a for a promotional examination when they got stuck shortly before 1 p.m.., WWJ reports.

The cops were stuck about half an hour, according to the radio station. The Detroit News says it was for a shorter period..  

Firefighters freed them without injuries.

The Detroit News quotes mayoral spokesman Dan Austin: 

“I don’t know what the weight limit on that elevator is, but would think [that many] guys at around 200 pounds apiece might be what the problem is. I’m just speculating. But we’re still looking into figuring out what exactly went on. It could have been a mechanical issue.”
