Don't expect to throw big parties.
Dan Gilbert plans to open a 13-story building next June at Griswold and Grand River with 218 micro-apartments that are 260 square feet each, reports Ian Thibodeau of The Detroit News. The building is called 28 Grand.
Architects had to streamline storage and layout much like in a boat cabin, says Steven Rosenthal of Bedrock Detroit before touring a model unit Thursday.
The apartments will be furnished and have utilities and Rocketfiber internet access included in the rent. There will be 133 market-rate apartments and 85 for those who qualify for low-income housing tax credits.
The affordable housing units start at just over $700 a month. The price for market-rate units will be announced in February.
