Metro Detroit motorists were expected to face some serious challenges getting to their destination Wednesday morning as sections of different freeways remained closed.
Katrease Stafford of the Detroit Free Press writes that the Michigan Department of Transportation’s website late Tuesday night showed at least 8 different sections of I-696, I-75, I-94 and M-39 that remained closed.
Meanwhile, the Freep reports that Wayne County declared a state of emergency for its 43 communities, and urged the governor to do the same. Gov. Rick Snyder’s office is holding off on any such declaration.
“We are seeing progress with receding water levels and MDOT crews continue to work tirelessly alongside local county road commissions to open roadways for the morning commute,” Snyder said in a statement released Tuesday night via the Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security division, the Freep reported. “The state remains committed to working with local first responders to address any remaining threats to public health and safety.”
Ferndale, Royal Oak and Warren also have declared emergencies, the Freep reports.
The scene seemed to be the same in many communities: Emergency restoration trucks everywhere and damaged property tossed to the curb.
