It's good in most cases for parents to have common interests with their children.  Of course, in instances like this, there's a limit to that concept.

Martin Smith, 47, and his daughter, Caitlin Smith, 18, each pleaded no contest on Monday in Macomb County Circuit Court to delivery of marijuana to a Fraser High School student, Jameson Cook of the Macomb Daily reports.

Specifically, they pleaded to a four-year felony, and possession of marijuana on school property, a high-court misdemeanor punishable by two years behind bars, Jameson Cook of the Macomb Daily reports.

A "no contest" plea in a case is entered in plea bargains in which defendants don't want to say they are guilty, but  accept the sentence recommended by the prosecutor.

The paper reports:

The incident occurred Feb. 9 when Caitlin Smith agreed to sell $10 worth of marijuana to another female student, according to Fraser police. Martin Smith, driving a black 2006 Dodge Caravan, picked up the girls from the high school and drove them to a nearby parking lot around 15 Mile Road and Garfield, where the transaction took place. After the sale, Martin Smith dropped off the girls back at school. Police were tipped off by two students.

Both are asking for special consideration for sentencing.
