Meijer is bringing some life to the Grand River and McNichols area on Detroit's west side, a distressed neighborhood that has long needed a boost.
Meijer had a grand opening Thursday at its new store, the city's second. The first is at 8 Mile and Woodward.
The Michigan chain's latest store was built where Redford High School stood.
Mayor Mike Duggan indicates that a third Meijer could be open in the city, but he didn' say where.
