Some find dating apps like Tinder are too sleazy, too much about hooking up, too much about one-night stands.
Now comes this: The League, a San Francisco-based app available in 21 cities, goes live Nov. 6 in Metro Detroit and Windsor, JC Reindl of the Detroit Free Press reports.
The website says:
So you want to date someone who shares your education level and ambition? And maybe, just maybe, you’d like them to be in your same neighborhood, attractive enough to at least look good in black-and-white photos, with a height that meets your way-too-restrictive height preferences. Perhaps you also want them to share your religion as well. While your mother may call you picky, we call you self-aware. It’s about to be happy hour, so go get ’em.
The Freep reports:
Applicants must share their LinkedIn profiles and submit six photographs as well as a personal bio. The League then uses an algorithm to give applications a first pass. But final approvals are made by humans, the company said.
"The League is an invite-only community for ambitious, career-focused individuals who are looking for the other half of their power couple," Meredith Davis, The League's head of communications, said in a phone interview. "We're inherently niche for a reason because if you want to date everyone, you can go on Tinder."
Detroit will start with an initial hand-selected dating pool of 500 people, spread across a 100-mile radius. The League, which is based in San Francisco, says it chose these men and women from a total of 2,522 applicants.
The app is free to download and membership is also free for those admitted after staying on a waiting list until a spot opens.
Those who pay a $199 annual membership fee can skip the line, but must still be approved.
