Alexey Mordashov is the 46-year-old billionaire chief executive of Moscow-based Severstal.
He is a big believer in Detroit, writes Joann Muller of Forbes. Mordashov has spent $1.5 billion modernizing the Rouge steel mill, transforming it into one of the most advanced, modern facilities in the world. Over nearly a decade he’s made peace with the union, replaced the blast furnace, installed the latest emissions controls and built state-of-the-art processing lines to produce strong-but-lightweight steel for the automotive industry.
And on June 21, Mordashov will mark the Dearborn plant’s rebirth with a rechristening ceremony.
“Now we are realizing our dream,” he says. “Despite all the challenges, we believe the automotive market is still the most attractive steel market in the United States.”
